Congratulations! You just had a baby, you are running on zero sleep, and someone is telling you to get camera-ready. I hear you, and I am here to tell you, don’t worry. I’ve got you. That is quite literally my job.
As a Boston newborn photographer who has been doing this since 2012, I know exactly what goes through a new parent’s mind leading up to a session. Will the baby cooperate? Will I look okay? What if my home isn’t big enough or bright enough? What do I even wear? These are all totally valid questions, and I am going to walk you through everything so that by the time I knock on your door, you can sit back, grab a cup of tea in your pajamas, and let me handle every single detail.
Here is everything you can expect from a newborn photography session with me.

The very first thing that sets my Boston newborn sessions apart is that I come to you. No packing up a diaper bag, no bundling your three-day-old into a car seat, no navigating Boston parking with a newborn in tow. I come to you, your home, your space, your sanctuary.
This is truly the best part of working with me, and families tell me all the time how much of a relief it is. Whether you are in Cambridge, Newton, Westwood, Lexington, or anywhere in between, I bring everything needed for a relaxed, professional session directly to your door. All you need is the baby. I take care of the rest.

If you are currently pregnant, now is the time to reach out. I work around your due date with total flexibility, because babies have their own plans! Newborn portraits are best taken within the first few weeks of life. During those early days, babies are naturally sleepy, curly, and incredibly snuggly, which makes for those timeless, tender images that you will treasure forever.
If your little one is already a few weeks old, please do not stress. It is never too late! We may shift the focus toward more awake, smiley shots rather than sleepy poses, and honestly, those are just as beautiful and just as worth having.

Part of what makes my sessions feel so effortless for families is that I handle all of the styling details. Here is what I bring to your session:
The only thing you need to provide? That gorgeous little baby of yours.

When I arrive, the first thing we do is get comfortable. There is no rush. Newborn sessions typically run about two hours, and I let your baby lead the way completely. Every session is customized to your family’s style, your home’s vibe, and your little one’s mood that day.
Here is how the flow of the session usually looks:
We start with the baby.
I begin with the newborn poses while your little one is at their sleepiest and most settled. I work slowly and gently, always prioritizing safety and comfort above everything else. There is plenty of time built in for feedings, diaper changes, and soothing moments.
Then we bring in the family.
I always encourage parents and siblings to join the session. These are your family keepsakes, and they are meant to be shared. Even the family dog is more than welcome. As a Frenchie mom myself, I know fur babies are absolutely family.
Moms, you are included too.
I know that many mamas feel less than glamorous in those early postpartum days, and that is completely okay. I have dresses on hand for you, and I will make you feel beautiful. You will be so glad you were in those photos. Every single time, even the shyest moms end up with some truly stunning images of themselves with their baby.

I cannot tell you how many families apologize for their home before I even walk in. Please stop. It does not matter if your space is small, has low light, or still has boxes piled in the corner. I have been shooting in-home sessions throughout Boston and Greater Massachusetts for over a decade, and I have worked in every type of space imaginable.
I bring studio lights when needed, and I know exactly how to work with what you have to create something warm, gorgeous, and timeless.
Your home is the backdrop, but the love in it is what makes these images come alive.

Before your session, I send each family a prep list to help customize your experience. It is quick and easy, but it makes a real difference in helping me understand your style, your color preferences, and any special requests you might have. Think of it as the behind-the-scenes secret to a smooth and seamless session. If you want a sneak peek into what to expect, you can also check out my styling guide for newborn photos for tips on what to wear.
For moms, I recommend solid, light-colored tops or dresses in creams, soft grays, or gentle pastels. These shades keep the focus on your expressions and the moments rather than the clothing. For dads, a solid shirt that complements mom’s palette works beautifully. You are welcome to wear one of my studio dresses if you prefer to keep it simple.

About an hour after we wrap up the session, we sit down together and go through your images. This is one of my favorite parts because it is where the magic really becomes real for families. I work with you to help you choose your favorites and decide how you want to display and preserve them.
I offer several beautiful products designed to live in your home and be enjoyed every single day, not buried in a USB drive in a drawer somewhere. This includes:
I handle all of the custom album and wall gallery design for you, because that is part of the full service experience I offer every single family.

My newborn sessions begin with a creative fee and collections that include both your favorite digital images and a beautiful tangible art product. Head over to my pricing page for the full breakdown, and feel free to reach out with any questions. I love chatting with families and helping you figure out exactly what works for you.

If you are expecting and want to lock in your session before your due date, I would love to hear from you. You can contact me, and we will get everything set up so that when your little one arrives, all you have to do is send me a text. I will handle everything else.
And if you want to keep exploring before you book, check out my newborn photography gallery to see the kinds of memories we create together, or take a look at my maternity sessions if you are also thinking about capturing your bump before the big day arrives.
These tiny, fleeting moments go so fast. Let me help you hold onto them forever.

How far in advance should I book a newborn photography session?
I recommend booking your session while you are still pregnant. I keep your spot flexible around your due date, so there is nothing to stress about. Once your little one arrives, you just let me know and we finalize the timing from there. Sessions are typically scheduled within the first two weeks of life for the best results.
What if my baby is older than two weeks?
It is absolutely never too late for photographs of your little one! While the first couple of weeks are ideal for those classic sleepy newborn poses, babies who are a bit older are wonderful to photograph too. We simply shift our approach and capture more of their emerging personality and expressions.
How long does a newborn photography session last?
Plan for approximately two hours for the session itself, followed by about an hour for your ordering appointment where we go through your images and plan your artwork together. I always go at your baby’s pace, so there is never any rushing.
Do I need to clean my house or prepare a special space?
Not at all! I am completely adaptable and have worked in every type of home you can imagine throughout Boston and surrounding towns. I bring my own lighting and everything I need to create a beautiful session wherever you are. A cozy, lived-in home is a wonderful home.
Can siblings and pets be included?
Absolutely yes to both! Siblings make for some of the most precious and heartwarming images of the whole session. And pets are always welcome. I am a Frenchie mom, so I truly believe they belong in the family portraits.
What should I wear for my newborn session?
I provide wardrobe dresses for moms, so you do not have to overthink it. If you prefer your own clothing, light, solid colors in creams, soft grays, and gentle pastels work beautifully and keep the focus on you and your baby. Check out my styling guide for more detailed tips.
What products do I receive after my session?
My full service experience includes everything from digital images to tangible heirloom art. I offer wall portraits, albums, and custom gallery arrangements. We design everything together during your ordering appointment so that what ends up in your home is perfectly suited to your space and your style.
Do you only photograph in Boston?
I serve families throughout Boston and the surrounding Massachusetts communities, including Newton, Cambridge, Lexington, Westwood, Chestnut Hill, Sharon, Somerville, Malden, Fenway, and beyond. If you are not sure whether I come to your area, just reach out and I will let you know!
