It’s best to photograph a newborn baby within the first few days of life. The “magic” timing for photos is specifically within the first two weeks of life for several reasons. First, babies are at their sleepiest state, often sleeping 16-17 hours a day. After the first couple of weeks, newborns start becoming more alert and awake with each day that passes. Secondly, the two-week mark is right before the onset of baby acne, which is more likely to occur in the 3rd or 4th week. Lastly, a newborn doesn’t usually develop colic during their first few days. If your baby is older than 2 weeks, don’t worry! It’s never too late to photograph your baby.
Though newborn sessions are best during the first two weeks of life, the answer is no! It’s never too late for photographs of your little one. There may be limits on sleepy photos and certain poses but I’ll be able to capture big smiles and more of their personalities. These cuties are only this tiny once, so as they say, “better late than never”!
For babies born weeks before their due date, it’s best to schedule the session around their due date. These extra weeks will allow the babies to develop a bit more, gain additional weight, and give parents the chance to settle in at home.
Everyone’s recovery and comfort level varies after a cesarean section. Some moms need extra time, while others are ready for a photo session right away. The most important thing is to ensure you feel physically and emotionally ready for the photos to guarantee a comfortable session.. even if these means waiting for an extra couple of weeks.
