Boston winter maternity sessions

I get a lot of requests for maternity sessions but due to the cold Boston winters, mommas-to-be often wonder what these sessions look like and if they can be done.   And the answer is YES,, and these sessions are gorgeous!  Below are the most frequently asked questions on winter pregnancy photos.

Can we shoot outdoors?

Yes!  Just because you’re pregnant in the winter, it doesn’t mean we can’t shoot outdoors.   I have a winter baby myself and I found it more meaningful to capture the season in which we were pregnant.   When your little one looks at these photos one day, it’ll bring back memories and stories of being pregnant with them during the winter and what it was like for you and your partner.

Where do we shoot?

I love that Boston has a different look and feel for each season.   We can shoot a combination of inside your home and a nearby park or the whole session at a favorite landmark.  Beacon Hill and the Boston Public Garden are my most popular requests for maternity sessions.  Plus, we get the best of two worlds:  Beacon Hill with its historic brownstones and cobblestone streets along with iconic Public Garden landscape and backdrop.   I have other locations in Boston as well.   It all depends on your photography goals.

What do I wear?

Luckily, winter photoshoots mean layers, which not only keep you nice and cozy but they add visual interest to your photos.  Mommas can show off their personality with knit sweaters, scarves, boots, and hats.  You can also upscale your look to a beautiful winter dress to show off that baby bump!   A must-have is a jacket that can be worn during the whole session or taken on/off between picture taking.

Can you show me some examples of cold-weather maternity photos?

Beacon Hill is always beautifully decorated for the holidays.

I actually love a snowy forecast… it makes the photos look magical.

We can always shoot at a special location for you.  Some of these examples were taken at Harvard Medical School, Fresh Pond Reservation in Cambridge, and JFK Presidential Library.

Yes, all the photos below were taken by me during winter sessions… even the ones with short-sleeved dresses!
