As a Boston newborn photographer, I’ve had the chance to photograph babies a lot of Santa babies!  It’s awesome knowing that I am able to capture such a special memory: a baby’s first Christmas.  Below are some cute photo ideas for  your Christmas photos:

Baby with a long Santa hat 

This one is a classic!  I bought this Santa hat on Etsy and I consistently use it for holiday photos.  I love how long the hat is, sometimes the whole length of the baby.  Make sure to capture different angles and positions for a variety of looks.

Using a digital backdrop with Santa

A way to give Christmas photos pizazz is to invite Santa over to your session.  But if Ol’ Saint Nick is busy, you can always use a digital backdrop! lol  The photo above was used in the digital backdrop below.  It looks realistic and it’s a fun way to surprise family as well.

Baby in a Santa Claus hat

Always a classic, a baby in a Santa Claus hat always makes for an adorable Christmas photo!

Santa baby in a basket

This is a simple and cute pose for a baby.  All you need is a little fur/wraps and a basket.  If you don’t have a Santa hat, you can use ornaments or other Christmasy items in or around the basket.

Close-ups of the little baby

While wearing the hat, don’t forget to take close-ups of the little one.

Different angles of the Christmas newborn

Without moving the baby, capture different angles to get varying looks.  This is such a simple idea that will go a long way!

Use ornaments for Christmas photos of newborns

One of my favorite ideas is to use ornaments as little baby props.  You can use anything!  Plus, ornaments are so small, they fit perfectly in babies’ hands… just make sure they are soft.

More Santa hats and digital backdrops for newborn photography

Below is another example of a Santa baby image.  Below it, I used another digital backdrop for a creative and festive look.  I love the backdrops from Pixiedrops Digital Backdrops.  There, you can find a wide selection of drops to add variety to your photographs.   I love the one below because it looks like Santa is softly tapping the baby’s head.. so sweet!

Baby next to a Christmas tree

For an extra touch, you can cut a stocking and use a white glove so it looks like Santa is holding baby.  Plus, it emphasizes how small they are.

For a minimal, yet festive look, you can use a mistletoe or a Christmas plant.  I purchase this artifical bouquet at Michael’s and I love how classic and simple it looks.  Don’t forget the added touch of a headband for baby girls.
