Malden Ma baby photography

I had the pleasure of photographing this week’s cutie during an in-home family photo session in Malden, Ma.  As a Boston newborn photographer, I love traveling for shoots and making parents feel super comfy during a pretty hectic time in a family’s life.  This little newborn baby boy was so easy to work with; he had the most adorable little features… just check out those lashes!  Plus, I was lucky to capture some adorable smiles.  If you have been following my work, you know baby smiles are my favorite to photograph!

Canon 50mm f/2.5 macro lens

I heard during a baby photo workshop that the Canon 50mm f/2.5 macro was the sharpest Canon lens for newborn photography.   The problem was that Canon no longer makes this lens so I had to find a used one.  After the workshop, I scoured the internet and I found it on eBay (I won the bidding for it at $127).  The second I saw Aiden’s long lashes at the session, I knew I finally had the perfect opportunity to use this lens to capture his detail shots (I shoot with a Canon Mark iii so this lens does fit full frame Canon cameras).   I shot his little lips and lashes (see the bottom photos) and I didn’t take it off my camera for the rest of the shoot!  I absolutely fell in love with it.  The only drawback I noticed that it was a little loud, especially when you compare it to the Canon 24-70mm.  Other than that, I found it incredibly sharp and versatile (from macro to full body shots).  This was the first time I used this lens but I look forward to using it for every newborn session.
